iSIMS was created as a credentialing initiative in response to the increasing need for identity security solutions that go beyond military and government agencies. DSA’s initial iSIMS implementation is being deployed in a school system to help track staff and volunteers, thereby quickly allowing officials to identify any unauthorized personnel on campus. The iSIMS card is used to both authenticate its owner's identity as well as store data about the card holder. Potential data that could be carried on the card includes contact information, medical information & alerts, and other important information needed in a crisis.
